Healthy Life

I would kill for that

I recently read that when forced to embrace change, 10 percent of people will respond like James Bond, 10 percent will respond like Moe Howard from the Three Stooges, and 80 percent will do nothing at all.

Some time after that I had an experience that shook me to my core. It shook me so much that it’s brought me where I am today.

I was watching a show and the woman on screen was talking about her size. The person next me said ‘I would kill to be her size!‘ Like most women we both have had our highs and lows when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. I’m guilty of saying those kinds of things too, and I’m sure we’re not the only ones. But that day, her comment made me really think. In fact, I thought about it for days!

Here’s what I thought: “Killing someone for their body is pretty dramatic, why not change?”

So, lets be real here. I’ve been struggling on and off for the last year to change the way I live. When I thought “..why not change” What I was really thinking is “Why don’t I change?”

Now, let me be clear. I’m not only talking about body image. I’m talking about the condition of our homes, the way we treat our husband and children, how we approach our jobs, friendship and  even our thought life.

Someone once told me that 1 of 9 people will make a lifestyle change if they were told they could prolong their life. This may or may not  be true and to be honest it really doesn’t matter. What I think matters is how I understood it. If that is true, that means that 11% of people would rather die then change. I have a choice. I can make my life better itty bitty bit by itty bitty bit or not.

I believe God created us to change from glory to glory. After much thought, I’m more committed to change than ever. To make this commitment more real, I will be blogging more often about these changes, how I’ve changed and I will be living proof that change is possible.
